Georgetown High School had an unwanted visitor Wednesday afternoon. This alligator wandered onto the school grounds, according to Principal Dr. Mike Cafaro. He said the gator was spotted in the bus area of the school by a crossing guard. Police and animal control responded and were able to capture the gator. There were some student onlookers but none were allowed to get close to the gator until it was secured in a cage. Georgetown High School was formed in the 1980s after Winyah High and Howard High merged. Winyah's mascot was a gator. "I sure hope the Howard High Tiger doesn't show up next. They are much more difficult to restrain," Cafaro joked.
